Let’s call it the “Frankie Brandao Dragway”
In the author’s last newspaper article, he mentioned that one of the things he would like to see come to fruition in 2025 is the naming of the drag race portion of the Curacao International Raceway. Notice that it’s not a renaming.
The property in the area of Ronde Klip, owned by the Fundashon Autosport Curacao (FAC), was given out under the condition that the land would service several disciplines of motorsport. Presently, the property entails a drag strip, which Mr. Frank Brandao is largely responsible for. However, there is more land available for other disciplines, such as karting, motocross and even oval dirt track racing.
It is with this in mind, that the author choose to compartmentalise the drag race facilities from the rest. In other words, at the Curacao Int’l Raceway one would find the:
Frankie Brandao Dragway,
the “insert project leader’s name here” Motocross Track,
the “insert project leader’s name here” Karting Circuit,
As the self appointed guardian of our motorsport legacy, I believe it’s important to give recognition to those who have made an immeasurable contribution to a sport. And it has only been a year since the passing of Frank Brandao and his efforts and love for the sport are still fresh in everyone’s minds.
This short piece is but to illustrate why the name “dragway” was chosen. However, whether one is in agreement with the former or not, it’s not that important as the name “Frankie Brandao”. The latter should hang in any case from the control tower.
